After removing the scale and corrosion, I take these parts to the kitchen sink where they will be scrubbed again, to make sure there's no oil from my finger, or dust so the paint won't stick. I then apply gold paint (in this picture, it's actually brass paint). I've just reassembled the pieces here for representation.
