This one is going to be to get more funds for other projects. I'm going to convert this to a 48-in-1 machine.

So far I've stripped the monitor out, removed the wiring and vacuumed. The monitor is a G07 with Pac-Man burn. It blows the cabinet fuse. On investigation, it looks like F901 is blown, which means that likely the HOT is blown. Not surprising. Likely the flyback toasted and took the HOT with it. The monitor was *filthy*. I disassembled it, washed down the circuit board, and wiped the tube and frame down thoroughly. Not 100%, but I'd give it a solid 95% clean.

Yesterday I removed the coin door, disassembled it, stripped it down and repainted it. *Much* better. Whoever thought it was a good idea to paint the front of a cab without removing the coin door first needs a lesson on aesthetics. It still needs to be reassembled, but one of the mech actuators is completely frozen solid with rust. I'll have to disassemble it further.

I bought the 48-in-1 board a few weeks back, right when I was thinking about doing this project. Capcom Bowl is a JAMMA pinout, so the harness is already in the cab. I'll need to use some Molex connectors to neaten things up, everything was hardwired in.

Looks like the florescent fixture doesn't work. Likely a blow bulb or starter. Ballast appears okay, but I won't know more without the other parts.

Burger Time
Defender
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong 3
Tunnel Hunt
Centipede Mini
Popeye
Galaxian
Shinobi (Pac-Man Conversion)
Capcom Bowling (Galaxian Conversion)

I'm really excited. Hardest part is going to be picking them up!

Edit: changed number of cabs, made minor correction

Fire button on P1 side didn't work. Crappy connection on the wire fixed it - while it was in my hand. Leaf switches...ah, crappy contacts. Still doesn't work when installed. Screw it...install it upside down. *shrug* it works, dunno why.

A week ago yesterday I brought this home with me. I saw it advertised on Craigslist under a yard sale ad as just 'arcade game'. Emailed him about it, found it was a cocktail (!!!) and he only wanted $60 for it.

Drove down, started @ 6am. Got lost in the city he lived in, figured someone would have jumped all over it. Finally found the house, people swarming all over it. Thought I was too late.

Lucky me, they hadn't even brought it forward. It was on the back porch. Different design than I've seen before. And the best part was he only wanted $20 for it! Non-working, but I can deal with that.

Then the bad: tipped it slightly, WATER started pouring from it. Apparently it had been on the porch for a week, and it had rained during that time. Luckily this thing was built to last, there was NO water inside. The water that was pouring out came from a recess under the control panels.

Got it home, started checking it out. I thought it had a 19" K7000, but it's a 13". Booted okay on first try, but an hour later I tried again and it wouldn't. Chalk that up to a dead power supply. Swapped that out and it's running 5x5. Controls are crappy, but that's no suprise considering they were submerged in water for an extended time!

I've stripped most of the vinyl off, stained the front and one side. The idea is to make this a Golden Tee cabinet (since the monitor is horizontal, and the CP I have is set up that way). I may yet change my mind, since I have a Galaxian CP just sitting here unused.

Got a couple of the easier ones by bridging the gap with solder. The others were too wide. Cool Guy is far better at this than I am (much more experience) and he had this wire that's about as thick as a cat whisker. He deftly put the traces right, and even soldered back together a tant cap that had been pulled apart.

While he did that, I attacked the video wiring harness that had been butchered, and did some last minute patching of the board harness. The video harness was in *really* bad shape. People, when you convert something, there's no need to cut wires right at the connector, lengthy wire is your friend!

Cool guy finished, and the video harness was done a few minutes later. Brought it over to the cabinet. Unplugged power from the main board, so we could warm up the monitor. That was if bad things happened (other than releasing magic blue smoke) we could see it and turn it off quickly.

After letting it warm, plugged the power into the main board and...hm...what's this? White garbled graphics. Ah, nutz. Futz with it a bit more. No change. Crap.

What to do, what to do. What's that, Cool Guy? DIP switches? I dunno, worth a look-see.

Open the manual...hm...hey, switch 10...'FREEZE' WTF does that do? Cool Guy, is that one on? It is? Dammit son, flip it, flip it!

...

...

...

Oh, crap, it works! Sweet Abraham Lincoln's beard!

Smack the credit button a few times...yep, it's playing! Oh...hm...playing mute. Sounds Good board blinks six times...means that's good...but we have an MCR/2 amp, betcha it's bad. Time for more research.
Right now I can get it so it lays flat, but then I turned it over to see where the joysticks would hit. I still have some chunks to remove.

So today I dragged it out of it's storage box, and sure enough, I'm guessing one of the joysticks must have smacked it during one of it's several moves. At least six cut traces, a knocked off cap (not sure what kind it is, I think tant?) one of the RAM chips had a corner knocked off it (but it looks intact, despite that) and the connection pins were mostly bent, and the solder joints broken on most of them. I fixed the pins first thing, but I'm going to have to wait for Cool Guy to hit the shop for the traces, he's got some wire that'll make quick work of them.

This allowed me to get to the bolts that hold the monitor enclosure onto the pedestal.

Of course, I have to allow the paint to cure overnight. Problem is the monitor enclosure is just sitting on the pedestal. I *pray* we don't have any unexplained vibrations, or anything, or I can kiss this project goodbye. It should be fine, as long as no one messes with it... (famous last words)
