The Multimedia Machine
This project is going to come in stages as I aquire the parts. My aim is to spend as
little money as possible on this project, and yet expect the best results. ;)
As stated on the previous page, the Machine will play DVD's, MP3's and other multi-media
types. As it stands right now, in order to play DVD's, I will require a DVD drive (no
kidding!) This also means that I will need some fairly advanced hardware to perform these
tasks. I had considered doing this purely in software, but for the best performance I'll
be using a decoder card, probably the Hollywood+.
As my budget is limited (read: $0), I'm going to be building the box as I come across the
parts via one source or another. One good site for finding stuff cheap online is
techbargains.com. Great site for online coupons
and deals. Another is techdeals.net. Both sites
are excellent for finding low-cost (or even no cost) computer parts.
How about exchanging or giving away your old computers or parts?
freeboxen.com is a site that caters to just that. Simply
list your unwanted goodies on the site, and, if you're lucky, someone will want it. It's as
the saying goes: "one man's trash is another man's treasure."
Enough already. Let's see the goods!
